Margretta (“Meg”) Morris, Brewster, MA, co-founder, and past president

Meg has been in the solid waste and recycling industry for nearly 30 years and knows litter when she sees it. She is also the Chairperson of the Brewster Recycling Commission and writes a monthly column for the Cape Codder. She recently was honored with MassRecycle’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Litter is nothing more than trash or recyclables that people don’t handle properly. Let’s all take responsibility for our own trash!

 

Linda Merrill-Contonio, Yarmouth Port, MA, co-founder, and president

After working in the printing industry for 30 years, Linda moved to Cape Cod and worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for the Senior Corps RSVP program.  It was there she became involved with many environmental groups, organizing and coordinating community activities, such as beach and neighborhood clean-up projects.

We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.  The amount of litter along our roads and beaches is infuriating.  It’s time we all get involved and make a difference before it’s too late.

 

Nancy Hipp, Harwich, MA, treasurer

Nancy is a founding member of Harwich’s “Tour-de-Trash” event, the town’s annual spring cleanup day.  She has broad experience in the environmental field and shares her concerns about the environmental impact of litter, as well as the aesthetic.

You can’t expect litter to just disappear without having an impact on our water bodies, animal, and aquatic life, let alone the beauty of Cape Cod!

 

Alan Robinson, Falmouth, MA, Vice President

Alan was instrumental in establishing litter-free rowing events in Philadelphia and has brought this expertise with him to the Cape. He is chair of the Town of Falmouth Solid Waste Advisory Committee’s Falmouth Litter Reduction Team (FLRT). He is also a co-founder of Litter Free Falmouth and works extensively with MassDOT on litter issues and clean-ups.

It takes a lot of planning, partnering, messaging, teamwork, and persistency. But in the end, when you see a riverbank park that had been occupied by 20,000 people for two full days just as beautiful then as before the event, it’s all worth it!

Margaret Sabens, Falmouth, MA, Secretary

Margaret retired recently after a 40-year career in health care. After hiking extensively throughout America and Canada with her husband and two dogs, she is devoted to trying to keep America beautiful.  Margaret is the co-founder of Litter Free Falmouth.

 If all Americans went outside right now and picked up 3 pieces of litter, we’d remove approximately 24 tons of garbage from the environment…daily!
